Connecting from the Heart
I have learned over the past five years that there are many different versions of what visiting and being with the animal beings means amongst pet professionals, pet parents and people in general. I have come to realize that the manner in which I connect is very unique - and some may even call it unusual. When I say I am visiting with your pet friends, 95% of the visit is one-on-one quality time with them. Now that can be addressing their physical needs through play, a walk, a swim, companionship, food, and water – and it can also be supporting their emotional needs via music therapy, sitting with them in the sun, meditating or offering Reiki. It is always enjoying one another’s company.
The phone is only used for answering the pet's parent with whom I am visiting or a family emergency call or to take the occasional photo when they are willing. The only time the television is on is when you request it for your pet(s).
When I am on my way to their home, I visualize their faces, speak their names and let them know I am in route. When I arrive, I tell them from my heart it is me and that I am coming in. We greet one another in the manner that works for them. Usually, there are belly rubs, back scratches, cheek scratches for the cat or dog, saying hello and connecting with the other animal beings. There is joy-filled chatting and lots of love regardless of the type of being they are. I have visited some very social rabbits, desert tortoises, red eared sliders, bearded dragons, and Guinea pigs. The way we connect is only limited by what we believe.
A walk with your pet is often guided by their nose and my sharing the amount of time we have leaving time for rehydration and cooling down in the last 10 minutes. Sometimes there are sprinklers, green fields and rarely rain. The distance and time of a walk varies just as much as the route. What doesn’t vary is that if the temperatures go above 90 in the sun, a walk does not occur. This is for them and for my health. In hot summer months this means getting in an early morning or late evening walk.
Being a Pet Companion is my joy. True connection with them from the heart on an emotional level is where my passion is.
