Opening the Door to Set Ourselves Free
We often go through life with certain apprehensions or fears that we allow on some level of comprehension to block us and our forward movement. It could be a position or role that we don’t think is right for us or creating a new workshop or service. Those outside of us often are looking at our potential and the strengths they see in us whereas we are struggling to see past the unclear block and self-motivate ourselves to climb over the huge wall we have allowed to grow from our mind-based fears or perceptions of what we can or cannot do.
It can help to go through our memories of the last big thing we conquered in our own life. See it from the struggles, challenges, the steps we took to get beyond each hurdle – big or small, and to recall the feelings we experienced after accomplishing it. What were our thoughts? How did we feel? What did we want to share with others? In what ways did we change? Did conquering it open doors that we previously thought locked and chained shut? Did we experience ourselves taking actions we know we would not have done prior? How did you see yourself before and after?
Now taking those feelings, lessons and the regained knowledge how can we apply it to the current situation. It is also key to identify the other obstacles we have overcome that may not be self-perceived as great as we see others. We can get insights from movies, books, and other things we are drawn or guided to do. A movie that I have gotten several nuggets of information from is the second Jumanji movie called, Welcome to the Jungle. One of the characters had been stuck in his fears and could not move forward. He did not realize the impact of it on the amount of time that had past and he did not know if time was passing at the same level outside as well as inside the game where he was a character. He thought three- to four- months had passed when really, he was stuck in his mind and anxiety for twenty years. The crazy thing is I could see how that could happen.
I see it on a health level too. How long did I unknowingly stay in fear cages that I am working to heal, and we want it to heal in moments? What if to heal we only have to open and walk free from those self-imposed cages? Would it be easier to take the steps forward? And even greater the knowledge that when we stay present in our life, we do not go into the future looking fear thoughts and there’s no reason to look back.
The bottom line is that we are truly the key to our own blocks. The tools are within us to recognize that what is stopping us from forward momentum is often our individual thoughts, perspectives, choices, and the actions we take or don’t take. This is why so often we hear that recognizing what we are doing, saying, thinking, or seeing in regard to ourselves, or others is the first step to reaching whatever our goals are. Setting ourselves free is an inside job.
