Placing Your Self in Airplane Mode

We have all seen or heard of people, friends, or family members talking about the need for a digital break, yet with some people and situations it is important to extend it to when you are focusing on reaching a stage of presence with your pets. Cellphones, computers, televisions, social media – all can distract our mind from the very thing we are wanting to expand into when connecting with pets – and that is honing our intuitive skills.

When our attention is too diverted by other things, we become less present and less aware of the other beings in the space with us by which eventually blocking all internal channels for communication as we are no longer listening to our senses, nor the beings who appear to be silent in the room with us.

When you begin to connect with them, it is important to create space in your day for non-digital time meaning keeping the digital or electronic distractions to a minimum. It may be taking a walk around the block with your phone in airplane mode. Start by focusing with your pet…giving him, her, or them your undivided attention.

Some pets reach a limit with their humans especially when we are gone all day, return home to only turn the television on immediately. From your pet’s perspective, they have been waiting to connect with you all day and when the tv, cellphone, or computer is engaged with instead of them they hit a wall, so to speak.

If your dog suddenly goes outside to bark at the neighbors, he or she is trying to get your attention for what they are really doing as they bark is communicating with the beings they are hearing on the other side of the fence, wall, or in a nearby yard.

When this happens – and it will, give them twenty minutes of your whole attention doing something they enjoy. Whether that is doing a walk, brushing or petting him or her, playing with them or something to refocus your attention on them. Then you can move onto something else.

If your cat hisses and runs away or suddenly wants nothing to do with you – he or she is either not feeling at ease with you or your energy or feeling ignored. Your attentiveness may be the missing component.
