Gifts of Love with Pets
What I have experienced as a Pet Companion is often identified as a rare degree of relating with your animal family members. That level differs by the pet (or pets) that I am working with, our connection, and the way they view me which can be based on the amount of time they have known me, what situations have we encountered together, and how I have assisted them during their time when you are away.
Each pet is as unique in personality, response to change, and how they co-exist with me as every human being. Every relationship is one of a kind. Many of the families with multiple kids see me as a member of their pack by the way they greet me as well as connect and yes, often groom me as they do their alpha buddy. There is a level of respect in how they treat me in your home – and that goes both ways.
Several families this summer had senior pets, some new friends, and others that we were renewing our relationship where time or shifts were occurring in their health. I have learned we do not know how much time we have, so making the most of the experiences I have with each individual animal family member is important and taking the time to really connect with each is key.
I sat down with them enjoying quality one-on-one time to view life from his or her vantage point of favorite yard or home spots. Taking the time to share with each what I had learned from each one during the months or years we have enjoyed one another’s company. Offering my gratitude to them for the lessons they taught me throughout our time together reflecting on some favorites, the fun and play as well.
Whether the gentle giant, the sweet elder, the new friend, a wise teacher, a head bump by a feline friend, a kiss from a canine kid, seeing one another eye to eye whether in the home or out, in the water or on the land – each is a gift of love and a unique friendship. It is a blessing to be able to share these moments together.
