Pets and People - Similar Yet Unique
Every pet is unique, no two exactly alike whether in ways they interact with others, communicate, or play. I have met those that play like they are a team and those that grab it as if it is a solo sport. There are those that can play catch at a dog park and see only you while others see only the dogs. I have met cats that love to play and those who want to sit nearby connecting with you. I knew a dog that when I would visit a friend, he always saw it as me coming to visit him – and that was before I started my business.
The many personalities of pets vary just as much as those of the people around us. Sometimes it takes us seeing, connecting, and understanding the pets to comprehend the people in our lives. Just as often there are times when situations we see as being more of a human experience plays out in a similar way for pets. We are not as different as some may think we are.
The better question may be who is learning from whom. Both animal beings and people go through challenges that push us to grow. From outward perspectives it can seem like a minor shift or change – and yet for the being walking the new experience it can feel huge and overwhelming.
The animal beings teach us much about ourselves and about life itself. Some are like mirrors reflecting in their actions a way we are living an experience. Just as with people, if we do not like it or how it feels to us, there is something within our personality that we need to look at to resolve, change, or shift our perception about it.
We are always learning. With some teachings, we use textbooks and get grades – in others it is through life experiences that we grow. With our pet friends, all lessons are through hands- or paws-on-learning. Yes, we all are unique in who we are, and we can learn lessons about life and those in it from each other.
