Calling in the New
Changing patterns that we have done all our life can be extremely challenging, however doing new things can start to pull in the new. Even something as simple as taking a new route to work or a new path for your morning walk can help shift the muscle memory attached to the known.
While at a pet visit recently, I discovered just how much one or two changes can throw off a routine or pattern. After going out for a walk, the pup and I landed on a whole new route that took us to a new area of the subdivision throwing us quickly into the unknown on multiple levels. It became obvious that my pup friend had not been there before either as he was letting me lead our journey while I would occasionally inquire if anything was familiar.
I had experienced this once or twice before with pups and the answering line that would pop into my mind was “Toto, we aren’t in Kansas anymore” meaning we have left the known and comfortable. Now we were venturing through quite an unknown trail complete with a brick path that led us there. The new surrounded us in so many ways and continued throughout the day for me and I am sure for him.
When I went for my next visit, the new continued at his house to the point I didn’t recall the old routine or pattern of what we did after getting dinner prepped and so we had the opportunity to relish the new ways of being together with play and chasing one another around the yard as well as sitting watching the setting sun turn the sky into night.
This shift of energy continued with creating something new on my computer that night along with taking brand new inspired actions through-out the remainder of my day and it was energizing allowing me to be more focused.
If you are looking to change a pattern in your life, one tiny shift can create a ripple effect in multiple areas of your life – and if you need some assistance changing life up, employ the help of your pet friends in the mix to help you call in the new.
