Un-Masking Our Emotions

We often think that our emotions and/or grief are solely connected to the people in our lives – that is a huge part of it. Yet there is an energy in the physical structure of a home, in the things we fill it with, the reasons we hold onto certain items, even the paperwork reflects the status of our emotions and our mind.

It can be in the animals that frequent a yard, or the way your own pets respond to the environment around them or new people entering and the nearly over excitement of begging to be seen, recognized, or understood beyond the sea of emotions.

The big picture of the weight of emotions goes way past the body and where we are holding the experiences, the pain, or the fear. It goes to everything else in our surroundings too. The saying “changing the world around you, begins with you" refers to healing ourselves and doing the deep inner work to take responsibility for our own emotions, responses, and working on opening the long-ago hidden aspect of ourselves that we have believed unworthy of being seen or heard. The part we have locked in the rooms of our mind, heart, or body.

It is us removing all the masks that we have put on throughout our lifetime to make ourselves fit in, be accepted by others around us or by those in our immediate world or just allowing ourselves to be seen when we didn’t feel safe to be seen as ourselves under all the layers of inner and outer conflict.

Every layer of healing starts with the way we see, value and support ourselves and our own body. It can begin with the smallest of movements, a slight shift in the way we look at something or even the inclusion of ourselves in a decision or the choice of whether to do something or not…all are parts of the layers to heal our inner most self, often called the inner child. Loving, nurturing, and accepting that part of us opens the doors to break through the ice that has kept us from breaking free and walking through the emotions is our ticket towards healing.

Whether on your own, in a group, or with those trained to help break through the walls that were put in place to create a feeling of safety, the pathway to freedom exists on the other side of the masks.
