Shaking Hands with the Uncomfortable

Recently I mentioned in a post that I was feeling wishy washy when it came to going to a local place for a walk. A place I often go and yet this particular day I was not feeling it. I checked in with myself about going and knew I needed to do so to get some movement in before jumping on the computer to work on my business before heading on a trip. So often, I get caught up in wanting to get project x-y- and z completed and put myself or my health on the back burner in the moment. It was important to work through the energy I was feeling and move through the resistance.

When I arrived at the local park, it was a very different type of day than when I normally go. One reason is there were many more vehicles with nearly all the spaces taken. I am accustomed to being one of a handful of people. The energy was very hyped up as there were a great number of young high school age students all training and running sprints as well as drills for cross country track teams. There were loud calls for motivation and coaxing from the coaches. Lots of heightened volume of voices and movement.

For me, I tend to be someone who walks or hikes to connect with nature and go within through meditation which comes more quickly in near silence than in louder environments. Everyone is different – however that is the way it works for my processing. I enjoy the sounds of nature and the feel of it which seemed absent on this day. It was there, but much harder to experience as I had to get through the additional layers of sounds, vibrations, and movement happening around me.

It was a struggle to stay there and keep going, so I had to feel into what it was teaching beyond the surface of information that was filtering through. I was being asked to learn to shake hands with the uncomfortable for it is often through new situations that we are growing and changing mindsets, beliefs, and are working through the lessons of life that take us steps forward on our path to become that new person that we are working to reaching in our goals.

As I leaned into the thoughts, emotions, and reflected on the situation, more awareness surfaced for deeper clarification, understanding, and integration. There were aha moments as the day turned into night of the new experiences that would be educating me about the importance of training myself in the art of feeling at ease in the awkward moments of growth.
